Pittsburgh Regional Transit

Pittsburgh is a CHARGE Community thanks to the Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) system. PRT has an ambitious goal to have a 100% pollution-free fleet by 2045. As of 2024, the system boasted eight zero-emission battery-electric buses. After 2032, PRT will only purchase zero-emissions buses for its 730-vehicle fleet. Battery-electric buses produce no greenhouse gas emissions or pollutants. The transition to a zero-emissions fleet includes retrofitting four bus garages and the maintenance facility, and training bus operators and mechanics on the new technology. Communities across the country need support launching innovative programs just like this!
